Shetland Community Spirit Award 2020

Would you like to say thank you to someone who has helped you out, shown kindness to you or others or helped out their local community during lockdown?

Voluntary Action Shetland (VAS) is delighted to launch a very special award – our Shetland Community Spirit Award.

The aim of this new award is to celebrate and recognise all the amazing volunteering that has been going in Shetland during the Covid-19 pandemic and those who have given so much to their communities.

Over the past five months we have seen volunteering in Shetland at its very best. People who have never volunteered before have stepped up to help the most vulnerable in our local communities whilst existing community groups have excelled in supporting so many at their time of need. With so many examples of local communities coming together showing brilliant Community Spirit throughout  Shetland, we know we need to recognise this amazing effort before it is forgotten about, as life slowly returns to the ‘new’ normal.

VAS needs your help to nominate people in your community for a Shetland Community Spirit Award. This award is open to everyone across Shetland including individuals you want to recognise and say thank you too or, new and existing groups or local shops etc who have provided a brilliant service to those in need during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The nominations will open on Monday 24th August for two weeks and the process is very simple. E-mail vasvolunteering@shetland.org with your nomination, anyone can nominate. Please give as much information as you can about the recipient with a contact name and e-mail or postal address of the person, group or local shop you want to receive a Shetland Community Spirit Award.

Recipients of the award will receive an electronic or hard copy certificate and VAS plans to celebrate all the recipients of the Shetland Community Spirit Award on their Facebook pages, on their website and through their VISP newsletter and in the local press.

This is a great chance to show appreciation for the continued commitment of people in Shetland to Volunteer, help out and give so much to their communities.
