Saltire Awards 2019

The seventh annual Saltire Awards, which celebrate youth volunteering, was held on March 26th 2019 at Mareel in Lerwick. 127 young volunteers aged between 12 and 25 received 290 certificates; recognising the 20,730 hours they had volunteered with 50 local groups, schools and organisations.

The Saltire Awards are national awards designed to recognise and record the commitment young people make to volunteering in their community. The awards, managed by Voluntary Action Shetland (VAS), are recognised nationally by colleges, universities employers and they are a valuable addition to any CV.

Summit Winners

Marlyn Stewart (VAS Chair), Rose Roberts, Angus Morrison, Kieran Johnson, Anna Fowlie (SCVO CEO), Liam Buchanan, Joanne Anderson, Neil Pearson (VAS Youth Development Worker), Catherine Hughson (VAS CEO), and Tavish Scott MSP.

Voluntary Action Shetland Chair, Marilyn Stewart, opened the ceremony, Anna Fowlie the new Chief Executive of the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) also spoke at the event. Tavish Scott, MSP, gave out the prizes.
