Shetland Kidney Patients Association
Mission Statement
To provide whatever assistance we can using resources at our disposal, to help you and your family to adjust to life on dialysis. To introduce you to those who have been through similar situations in order to provide friendship and support.
Who are we?
We are ordinary people just like yourself who have a common link. We, or a family member have been affected by kidney failure. Some of us are dependant on haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis and others have been fortunate enough to receive a kidney transplant. Whatever the treatment, kidney failure not only affects the sufferer, but also impacts on the family. A special diet needs to be followed and many tablets taken.
Holidays need a great deal of forward planning, particularly for those on haemodialysis where arrangements have to be made for treatment in another centre.
As a group we try to hold regular meetings.
What do we do?
As a registered charity, we rely on the generosity of the general public. We try to hold regular fund raising activities to help support the work of the Association. We are always open to suggestions , but in the past we have been involved in craft fairs, bric-a-brac sales, music nights, supermarket bag packing, to name but a few.
