The core aims of the volunteering arm of Voluntary Action Shetland are:
- To increase the number of people involved in volunteering
- To broaden the range of people volunteering
- To bring about more positive attitudes to volunteering
- To get volunteering better recognised at policy level
- To develop the capacity of volunteer involving agencies and volunteers
Formerly Volunteer Centre Shetland, we are a member of Volunteer Centre Network Scotland and have been operating as a “Jobcentre” for volunteers and for organisations seeking volunteers in Shetland since 2001. In 2004 we came under the umbrella of Shetland Council of Social Service. In June 2009 the Shetland Council of Social Service changed its name to Voluntary Action Shetland, and we are now part of VAS.
