We offer a range of training and learning opportunities to meet the group and individual needs of your organisation and its members.
Voluntary Action Shetland is delivering the following short courses, which are aimed at voluntary groups and volunteers but open to all, and are free of charge.
What Funders are Looking For 16th February 2013 Market House, Lerwick 9.30 am - 12.30 pm *Write better funding applications *Understand the criteria of an effective application *Understand how the funding assessor goes about their job Objectives By the end of the session participants should be able to: *Examine the role of a funder when assessing funding applications *Assess and compare funding application forms *Identify weaknesses in applications *Be more confident when writing funding applications
Duties of Trustees Under OSCR 2nd March 2013 Market House, Lerwick 9.30 - 12.30 pm *Aims to provide participants with the knowledge and understanding of the Charity & Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the responsibilities that the Act places on Charity Trustees Target Group This course is suitable for anyone who has responsibility for the management or control of a charitable organisation, particularly Trustees, Management Committees and Directors Objectives By the end of the session, participants will have: *Knowledge of the background to the act. *An awareness of what constitutes a Charity Trustee. *Knowledge of the duties of Trustees (Both general & specific). *Knowledge of what constitutes ‘breach of duty’ and the implications of any breach.
Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisations (SCIOs) 23rd April 2013 Market House, Lerwick 5.30 pm - 8.30 pm *Common legal forms for charities *The new Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation *The legislation and regulations in relation to SCIOs Objectives: By the end of the session, participants will have: *Knowledge of the background to SCIOs; *An awareness of different legal forms for charities; *Knowledge of the principles of being a SCIO; *Knowledge of SCIOs, what they are, how to form one and what the statutory requirements are; *An awareness of the principles surrounding the end of the life of a SCIO *An overview of the advantages and disadvantages of SCIOs
safeTALK 5th March 2013 Market House, Lerwick 5.30 pm - 8.30 pm *Aims to enable participants to recognise and engage with people who might be having thoughts of suicide and to link them to appropriate help and support Objectives: By the end of the session the participants should: *Be more informed about preventing the immediate risk of suicide *Understand how to keep people at risk of suicide safe *Understand the challenges of harmful taboos that inhibit open and honest talk about suicide *Have a clear set of steps that will allow them to confidently act on direct and indirect requests for help from people who have thoughts of suicide and ensure they receive the help they want.
