Masters in Citizenship and Human Rights by Learning Contract
SCVO receives support from ESF funding in Highlands & Islands to develop this programme
If your work or regular volunteering activity aims to enhance and protect people’s equality and human rights, you can now earn a qualification that is not purely law based and which recognises and supports the vital day-to-day work you already do.
As the world in which we work is shaped by global, national and local influences, it can be challenging for us to articulate our key messages in the face of continuous changes to civil society and societal values. This programme aims to assist those working between the state and the market to develop a deep understanding of the key issues of Globalisation and Migration, Leadership for Equality, Human Rights, and Citizenship & Practice, and to transform this knowledge into useful and practical frameworks to enhance benefits to our service users.
SCVO is working jointly with Glasgow Caledonian University to deliver an MSc in Citizenship and Human Rights as part of our long-term commitment to, and engagement with, this subject. The work-based learning programme - shaped to the needs of our sector and our people - is delivered mostly online to overcome issues of rurality and accessibility, and to work flexibly around the demands of our busy working lives. Entrance by recognition of prior learning and flexible entry and exit points open up access to this high level qualification.
Engaging with the programme brings rewards to all: to the student who will grow depth of knowledge and skills and add MSc after their name; to their organisation which will benefit from new ideas and practice fed in as part of the reflective element of the course; and to their service users who gain from enhanced service provision. In times of financial restraint this is a development opportunity that acknowledges the vital work carried out by volunteers and key employees.
