2008 Season Round Up

This has been our best year to date with some closely fought races at the regattas.  The open women achieved a very respectable overall 5th place in the SYRA League.  There seems to have been a shift in the balance of power and Lerwick have really come ahead picking up several prizes.  Burra and Aith are still key players of course, but not dominating the league as they have done.  New teams such as Yell and Nesting are now very much in contention making regattas interesting.  It gives everyone hope for another year, it is all to play for in 2009.

We are still suffering from humliband problems - although it is much improved from earlier in the year.  We still need to resolve our feet arrangements too.  The open women have lost one member who has moved south, but we have gained a few more which is good for the future of our club.  The veteran women don't seem to be interested in attending regattas and their practice nights have tailed off considerably.  Lets rally some interest for next year!  We are always looking for new members - it would be great to have several teams entered into various races at next years regattas.  What happened to the men?  Please contact any committee member if you would like to participate.

Again this year we took part in Da Voar Redd Up and held our annual Sunday Teas.  Our funds are reasonably healthy but we enjoy the social side and it's always good to have a get together.  If anyone has any suggestions for our winter schedule please get in touch.  I think a night out is on the cards very shortly.

So, we are sad to say that's the season over for another year.  It has been an enjoyable year.  We have attended all the League races and the inter club, only missing out the championships at Collafirth.  The open women missed out on the prize giving in Bigton due to other commitments, but hopefully we will make it next year.  Who knows - we may have to go and pick up a trophy!  Well, there is no harm in dreaming ...........
