Ferry - MV Leirna Journey time is 5 minutes. Passengers can remain in their cars if desired. There is an external staircase at each end of the vessel with 13 steep steps leading to the upper passenger lounge but there is also a lower lounge at deck level with ramped access at both ends. Both doors to the lower lounge have a 50mm threshold. A third internal staircase joins the two lounges which each have a small toilet not suitable for wheelchairs. The toilet in the lower lounge has a 45mm threshold at the entrance. Tactile signs are fitted to toilet doors. The lower lounge has fold down seats without arm rests. Both lounges are well lit and warm even on cold days. . Alternative vessel is MV Fivla and is used when main ferries are undergoing maintenance. (Details of MV Fivla can be found on the general information page) Lerwick Terminal The waiting room is situated 113 metres from the Town Service bus stop and is reached via a good quality pavement with drop kerbs. The route is well lit by street lamps. There is level entrance to the waiting room which has bench seats. There is a public telephone kiosk outside the waiting room. There are no toilets at the waiting room. The nearest accessible toilets are beside the bus stop (113 metres away.) Male and female toilets are reached via several steps but a RADAR toilet is included at the south end of the toilet block. The ferry is boarded via a ramp which is 15 meters from the waiting room via a level car park. Foot passengers should be aware of vehicles manoeuvring in this area. There is no segregation of vehicles and pedestrians on the shore ramp. There is an information board for the Noss Nature Reserve on the wall of the waiting room. Updated ferry departure information is displayed on a large electronic notice board beside the ferry ramp. The area around the waiting room is well lit by street lamps. . Bressay Terminal There is no segregation of vehicles and pedestrians on the shore ramp. There is a sloping 145 metre access road leading from the ramp up to the car park and toilets which have four marked accessible parking bays immediately adjacent. There is a separate paved walkway alongside the access road which has drop kerbs at one end and a low kerb section at the other end. The building which housed the toilets has good ramped access at both ends but these ramps do not lead to any accessible facilities as there is no waiting room and the telephone booth is permanently out of order. The male toilet has a cubicle with a wide door but no hand rails and insufficient room for a wheelchair. The Female toilets have two cubicles but both are very small with inward opening doors and are also unsuitable for wheelchairs. Grab rails are fitted beside all entrances which have steps. The Bressay Heritage centre is situated immediately beside the toilet block and has ramped access to the car park. It is open from May to September. The access road and car park are lit by street lamps.
