Initiative at the Edge (IatE), North Isles has now completed their IatE status at the end of September 2009 and have carried on under the new name of the Blumull Development Company (BDC) with a more focussed vision and remit for the areas of Business and Employment, Tourism and Youth in the isles of Unst and Yell.

Initiative at the Edge, North Isles was a partnership programme involving communities in specific rural areas. The operating principle of Initiative at the Edge gave the community groups the power to identify their needs, required actions and develop projects accordingly. The partners along with the designated local development worker support the communities in the realisation of their projects.
