The Sandwick Social Club is a community owned licensed club that was initially built by volunteers and has just celebrated it’s 25th anniversary of opening in 2006. It is the largest such organisation outside Lerwick and is open every day.
It is the main venue for entertainment such as dances, food nights, charity or fund raising events for local organisations (e.g.) race and poker nights, and weekly quizzes (now going for over 12 years).
The Social Club also runs community events such as the Guy Fawke’s night with around 300 attending and the senior citizen’s annual New Year dinner and lunch club. The themed family nights has all age groups participating from the infants to the grandparents.
Young musicians use the hall for regular practice sessions. It is used by the SYCC for special concerts, and alcohol free gigs.
The club is the base for the aerobics, carpet bowls clubs and the darts association.
It is often used as a venue for the Shetland Folk Festival, Fiddle and Accordion Festival and Blues Festival.
