  • Local groups urged to populate new community directory
September 5th 2023

Community groups, organisations and services across Shetland are being encouraged to upload their contact information to the new Community Directory before its launch in the coming months.

The online site has been created by Shetland Islands Council, in partnership with NHS Shetland and Voluntary Action Shetland, as a resource for both Shetland residents and visitors to the isles. The directory will offer a database of activities and services across Shetland, with localised and searchable information for specific areas of Shetland, unlike national directories.

Brian Chittick, Chief Executive of NHS Shetland said – “The community directory will be such an important tool for connecting people to what they need as easily and quickly as possible. There is a wealth of activity in our local communities which can support health and wellbeing and I encourage all organisations and groups to sign up and promote what they are offering.”

Lynn Tulloch, Executive Officer for Voluntary Action Shetland, said: “The directory is a fantastic resource and couldn’t come at a better time. After the difficulties faced in the bad weather last winter, it’s really shown that we need to have up to date information about our communities; when we need to rely on services or get connected with local groups and organisations, we can all find information quickly.”

All known groups have been contacted, via email, with instructions on how to upload their contact information. For any group who has not received an email, please phone 01595 744588 or email shetlandcommunitydirectory@shetland.gov.uk.
