Support for Children and their Families
The Children and Young Person’s Co-ordinator represents the views of parents and families on various panels and groups in the local community, such as the Shetland Childcare Partnership (SCP) – childcare sub group, and has direct links with Special Needs Action Group (SNAG) and Shetland Disability Group (SDG).
The Children and Young Person’s Co-ordinator also provides telephone support to those individuals who cannot access the meetings on a regular basis to ensure they are kept up to date on all topical and current issues Disability Shetland are involved in. This also includes support for personal family matters and is completely confidential.
The family support element of the role also encompasses the dissemination of relevant information and issues to parents on a regular basis. This information is collated from partner organisations both local and national such as SNAG, SCP, Contact A Family and the Autism Support Network, to name a few.
