Water Exemption Scheme Feedback
14 September 2017

Many charities in Shetland have benefitted from the Scottish Government Water Exemption Scheme which provides exemption from water and wastewater bills.  However, in April 2015 the criteria for benefitting from the scheme were altered.  As a result charities no longer qualify if:

  • they hold a permanent alcohol licence or
  • if the premises is a charity shop or other premises used for purpose of retailing new or second hand merchandise; or
  • the premises operates as a café which is open to the public and operated on a regular basis to generate income; or
  • the organisation is a Local Authority or an Arms-Length External Organisation (ALEO).

Many public halls in Shetland have already responded to a local survey about the scheme which was carried out last year, however if your organisation is affected by the changes we would encourage you to comment via the survey below.

The survey will be available until 29 September.
